The following Bible verses about trusting God remind us that God’s character is the foundation of our faith in Him. Trust is the foundation for any relationship. When someone is truthful, we trust what they say. When someone is reliable, we trust them to finish what they start. When someone is strong, we trust them to protect us. Character and integrity are the basic building blocks of trust.
Several years ago I visited a friend of mine in Northern India. He was serving as a medical missionary and had partnered with a local church that was taking the gospel to rural villages in the foothills of the Himalayan mountains.
For a week, we camped by a river, taking day trips up the mountain to administer simple medicines and encourage new believers in their faith.
I was struck by the slow pace of the days we spent camped by the river’s edge. We were fortunate to accomplish one thing each day. Compared to the frenzied activity of my work back home, we seemed to accomplish very little.
By the end of the week my opinion had changed. Reflecting on our time together I realized we had strengthened our bond of Christian fellowship with brothers from another country, baptized new believers in the faith, trained leaders in Christian discipleship, and encouraged the church through prayer and the preaching of God’s word.
With this new perspective, it seemed that my normal state of flurried activity was accomplishing very little.
American culture preaches the of virtues of independence and self-determination. We are told that through hard work, we can pull ourselves up by our bootstraps and make something of ourselves.
The Bible teaches us to depend on God, trusting the Father for our provision as we seek his kingdom (Matthew 6:31-33). We depend on Jesus for our salvation (Ephesians 2:8-9), and the Holy Spirit for spiritual renewal (Titus 3:4-7). God does the heavy lifting. Our work is to serve as witnesses to his grace and mercy.
God desires to have a relationship with us, built on trust. He demonstrates His trustworthiness through His character and His faithfulness. There are many things in this world that try to persuade us to trust anything other than God, but God keeps calling us back to Himself. He calls us to place our trust in Him, and promises to give us what we need to flourish in our relationships.
By meditating on the following Bible verses about trusting God, we can grow our faith and dependence on God.

Sir, my concern is not whether God is on our side; my greatest concern is to be on God's side, for God is always right. - Abraham Lincoln
God meets daily needs daily. Not weekly or annually. He will give you what you need when it is needed. - Max Lucado
My child, I am the Lord Who gives strength in the day of trouble. Come to Me when all is not well with you. Your tardiness in turning to prayer is the greatest obstacle to heavenly consolation, for before you pray earnestly to Me you first seek many comforts and take pleasure in outward things. Thus, all things are of little profit to you until you realize that I am the one Who saves those who trust in Me, and that outside of Me there is no worth-while help, or any useful counsel or lasting remedy. - Thomas a Kempis
A truly humble man is sensible of his natural distance from God; of his dependence on Him; of the insufficiency of his own power and wisdom; and that it is by God's power that he is upheld and provided for, and that he needs God's wisdom to lead and guide him, and His might to enable him to do what he ought to do for Him. - Johnathan Edwards
